Care.com Presents: RARE A Community Event — A Day of Sunshine, Joy, and Impact
The STAR Foundation hosted its 5th annual RARE fundraising event
On Sunday, May 18th, Lewisboro Town Park was transformed into a place where fun and purpose came together to support families impacted by Salla disease. “RARE: A Community Event,” presented by Care.com, brought together families, researchers, and community members for an afternoon full of laughter, learning, and love, all in support of the Salla Treatment and Research Foundation (STAR).
What made the day so powerful wasn’t just the activities; it was the people. Hundreds showed up in full force to connect, celebrate, and support research that gives us real hope.
Kids rode ponies from Farm to Heart and participated in the Pony Party with Rising STARR Horse Rescue, got up close with goats and bunnies at the petting zoo, and watched in awe as Broadway magician R.J. Lewis pulled off dazzling tricks. The Harlem Wizards brought their signature mix of basketball, humor, and crowd interaction, which had everyone, including parents, cheering. And for the littlest ones, The Guitar Guy delivered a musical experience perfect for curious toddlers.
We had wine and beer tastings for the adults, hot dogs for everyone, and a chance to get creative with tie-dye t-shirts and the Care Card Creation Station, where guests wrote heartfelt notes to children battling serious illness at the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore.
The auction brought out some friendly competition, featuring unique items and experiences generously donated by local supporters. Every bid helped push us closer to our fundraising goals, and more importantly, toward real treatments for our community.
